Project Brief

Inspired by the colourful dual-island nation of Trinidad & Tobago, Spa Esencia is a natural reflection of the diverse heritage and celebratory culture that gives Trinidad & Tobago its unique character.  Featuring luxurious and authentic treatments based on the Caribbean’s natural bounty and nonstop festival calendar, guests can experience treatments such as the Warm Spice Body Wrap, a blend of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg along with a massage to restore balance, or the Mineral Mud Mas Body Wrap, which is inspired by ‘Mud Mas’, the traditional Carnival masquerade where revellers cover themselves in mud and dance in the streets until dawn.

The vibrant 11,000 sq. ft. Spa Esencia features 6 treatment suites with private showers, a full service state-of the-art fitness centre, and a rooftop infinity pool.

Project Mandate

During her tenure as International Spa Director for Hyatt, Serena arrived on-site 6 months prior to the forecasted launch, developed full financial forecasts and marketing plans, the spa brand, coordinated operations, and successfully launched Spa Esencia as a new identity on the Trinidad Spa scene in 2008.

With the goal of offering guests the most authentic spa experience possible, Serena toured the island from coast to coast, exploring Trinidad's native tribes and cultures and selecting indigenous natural resources that offer the most indulgent and healing properties. The result: a ripe selection of natural spa treatments you'll be pressed to find anywhere else.
